My Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the feast day of our parish, known in the Church as the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus.
The Gospel reading today from John is among the most profound passages in the Scripture. In this reading Jesus declares, “I am the living bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he shall live forever; the bread I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.”
Despite the years and despite the translations, it is clear that Jesus spoke of the Eucharist as we understand it today. He used no symbolic phases, no vague suggestions that the Mass merely remembers the Sacrifice of Calvary. He said, “I am the living bread come down from heaven.”
Our church teaches that the Eucharist is the Source and the Summit of everything we are as Catholic people and it is in Holy Communion that we unite with the Lord and with the whole Church. So, my friends, on this Feast of Corpus Christi it is good for us to remember that receiving Holy Communion is indeed an extraordinary privilege and the most intimate encounter we can have with our Jesus.
CORPUS NEWS
UPDATE ON REBUILD – Rooted in faith and building for the future: We will break ground in January 2027 with plans for our parish and school to welcome you home in the future. More information will follow.
RETIREMENT FUND FOR PRIESTS – Next Sunday, June 14 we will have a collection for the Retirement Fund for Priests. This collection is taken throughout the Archdiocese. It is our opportunity to help the priests who spent their lives caring for God’s people and who now need our care and support. The envelopes will be on the table at the chapel entrance.
FATHER’S DAY MASS INTENTION CARDS are available on the tables at the entrance to the Chapel at the Carondelet Center. With the cards is an offertory envelope that can be filled out with the name of your living or deceased father. Please then place this envelope in the collection basket and your father will be remembered in our novena of Masses.
PALISADES 4TH OF JULY PARADE
The Palisades Fourth of July Parade is returning this year, and Corpus Christi is going to participate. The theme of our entry is RE-Building the Body of Christ in Pacific Palisades. We have a classic car and a truck to carry a banner, and we are inviting parishioners of all ages to walk alongside with flags. If you have ideas to contribute or if you and other family members can walk with us, please reach out to Carolyn or Bill Highberger, carolyn.highberger@gmail.com or whighber@gmail.com .
Help spread Hope for our Community and our Parish!
THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION After two years of preparation, the young people in our parish will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming Saturday, June 13 at 3:30 at the Carondelet Center with Cardinal Roger Mahony presiding.
