My Dear Parishioners,

This last day of November ends another calendar month and moves us closer to December 21, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year, when we will be plunged into deeper darkness. Meanwhile, the liturgical season of Advent begins.

Advent has a two-fold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and, likewise, a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming at the end of time. For these two reasons, Advent is a time of devout and expectant delight.

We are a people who live in hope as we move from Ordinary Time into the season of Advent with a prophetic vision lighting our path through the darkness. The first reading on the First Sunday of Advent, captures the spirit of anticipation and hope when people can beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, never again to take up the weapons of war against each other or learn war. This vision provides us with impetus for hope.

CORPUS NEWS

The Rebuild Committee (Fr. Kidney, Fr. Valerian, Paola Sessarego, Bruce Pomeroy, Charlie Smith, Denice Economou, Jim Carcich, Ken Crouse, Lorraine Hartman, Luzanne Otte, Mark Shelbert, Michelle Trout, Rick McGeagh, Sam Lagana, Tom Whitesell, Vilma Chehade, Vince Lombardo, Pat Johnson) met recently. Based on “Rebuild & Renew: Reflections for a New Corpus Christi,” a questionnaire from the architects, we shared our dreams for the future of Corpus Christi. I look forward to gathering with all our parishioners in the near future as we move forward with planning the future of our community. The School is scheduled to reopen in August 2026.

Just in time for Christmas – We are offering for sale Beautiful Study Bibles with engraved covers commemorating Corpus Christi Parish’s 75th Anniversary.   The purchase price is $85.00 and they will be available beginning November 30th.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Service TONIGHT – MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24
This year the Palisades Lutheran Church (15905 Sunset Blvd.) will host the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Monday, November 24 at 7:00 pm. All Palisades faith communities are invited to attend. The theme of this year’s gathering is “Foundations of Faith: A Time to Renew and Reconnect.”
