Msgr. Liam Kidney
Monsignor Liam Kidney was born in Cork City, Ireland. He began his studies for the priesthood in the Mungret Jesuit School in Limerick, Ireland, where he earned a degree in Philosophy. In 1964 he came to Southern California to continue his studies at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California. He was ordained in 1968.
He has served in various ministries in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles through the years; as a Catholic high school teacher and principal, assistant pastor and pastor. He also worked in radio and television media for the church from 1979-1989, and was the executive producer of the Papal Youth Conference when the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II came to Los Angeles in 1987.
He has touched lives with his spirituality, wisdom and Irish charm in Long Beach, Hacienda Heights, Brentwood, La Puente, Santa Fe Springs, Redondo Beach, Playa del Rey, Camarillo (the founding pastor of Padre Serra Parish) and Pacific Palisades.
Father Kidney came to Corpus Christi as Pastor in July 1999. He was honored with the title of Monsignor in November 1999. He is best known for his down-to-earth, upbeat attitude, great wit, leadership, love of movies, and yo-yo skills.
His goals are simple but profound: “To be a wonderful pastor, a good listener, and to teach people that the God we believe in is ‘madly in love with us’.”
