My Dear Parishioners,

Today is known as Good Shepherd Sunday and it is a wonderful opportunity for us to think about the characteristics of a good shepherd.

Drawing inspiration from today’s Gospel reading, Pope Francis spoke recently on the characteristics a Good Shepherd should possess. The Good Shepherd is the one who “gives his life for the sheep”.

Being a shepherd “was not just a job, but it required time and a lot of dedication. It was a true and proper way of life: twenty-four hours a day, living with the flock, accompanying them to pasture, sleeping among the sheep, taking care of those who were weakest.”

“In other words, Jesus does not do something for us, but he gives everything, he gives his life for us.
He has a pastoral heart”. And the Church, in order to evaluate her own pastoral work, must always confront ourselves with Jesus the Good Shepherd.

If you are with Jesus, Pope Francis remarked, you discover “that his pastoral heart always beats for the person who is confused, lost, far away”. And if someone gets lost and goes away, the pastoral heart of Jesus “suffers and risks”.

The Lord “suffers when we distance ourselves from his heart. He suffers for all who do not know the beauty of his love and the warmth of his embrace”. And “in response to this suffering, he does not withdraw, rather he takes a risk. He leaves the ninety-nine sheep who are safe and ventures out for the lost one, thus doing what is consonant with his pastoral heart which misses the one who left, and longs for someone who has gone away”.

Siempre Adelante,

Monsignor Liam Kidney
Pastor

VOTIVE CANDLES FOR

YOUR INTENTIONS

We are happy to announce, you are now invited to come into the church to light votive candles at our Blessed Mother shrine for your own intentions, or in memory of your loved ones.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A MASS SAID FOR SOMEONE?

A lovely way to remember a deceased loved one, a recently deceased friend, parent of a friend, or relative, or someone who is ill, or perhaps just a friend you would like to honor, is to have a Mass said for them. Each day and weekend a Mass is offered in memory of a deceased person, or for the intentions of someone who is ill, or perhaps whose birthday is that day.

If you would like to have a Mass said for someone, you can contact the parish office at 310-454-1328, come in person, or email jane@corpuschristichurch.com with the name of the person, if they are deceased or living, and if you are requesting a specific date. Please note that the annual Mass book fills up quickly, and often specific dates are booked well in advance. You can pick up a card to send to the person or their family so they will know when the Mass is being said, and that you are thinking of them. We can also mail the card for you. We would love to honor your request, so give us a call!
