WHAT'S
GOING ON
at
CORPUS CHRISTI CHURCH.
My Dear Parishioners,
The Bible has been thought of in terms of a Divine Drama. A drama in which, throughout history, the human race has been inspired.
The role of God in history can be divided into three acts:
- THE OLD TESTAMENT – ACT I is the record of what God did, through Israel, to point the way back to Him.
- THE GOSPELS – ACT II contains the record of God’s interaction through a man to save humanity.
- In the remainder of the New Testament from ACTS – JUDE is ACT III, the message of redemption spreads out from a handful of Jews in Jerusalem to every corner of the Mediterranean.
- PENTECOST is Scene I of the Third Act.
The third act of a drama can only be understood in terms of the preceding acts. However, the Pagans, the Gentiles and the Jews in Jerusalem on the first day of Pentecost were confused when they saw the extraordinary activity of the Apostles, and cynically concluded they were drunk.
Peter puts things in context for them, quoting from the Old Testament Prophet, Joel, “God will pour out His spirit upon our flesh.”
As the Holy Spirit came down on Pentecost Day over 2,000 years ago to fill the disciples with God’s presence and power; so, as the drama continues, He will come to each one of us today, provided we open our hearts to Faith.
We pray for the fruits of His presence – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.
You have kindled your light in us with your Holy Spirit!
Siempre Adelante!

Pastor

You are invited to come into the church to light votive candles at our Blessed Mother shrine for your own intentions, or in memory of your loved ones.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A MASS SAID FOR SOMEONE?
A lovely way to remember a deceased loved one, a recently deceased friend, parent of a friend, or relative, or someone who is ill, or perhaps just a friend you would like to honor, is to have a Mass said for them. Each day and weekend a Mass is offered in memory of a deceased person, or for the intentions of someone who is ill, or perhaps whose birthday is that day.
If you would like to have a Mass said for someone, you can contact the parish office at 310-454-1328, come in person, or email jane@corpuschristichurch.com with the name of the person, if they are deceased or living, and if you are requesting a specific date. Please note that the annual Mass book fills up quickly, and often specific dates are booked well in advance. You can pick up a card to send to the person or their family so they will know when the Mass is being said, and that you are thinking of them. We can also mail the card for you. We would love to honor your request, so give us a call!
As always, our priests are available to anoint those who are very ill and to bury the dead. Please call the parish office, 310-454-1328, and you will be directed to our emergency pager number.
God Bless You All and Keep You Well!
Please support our local advertisers
Especially during this time of uncertainty during the pandemic, it is important that we support our local businesses, some of whom advertise in our Corpus Christ bulletin and some are Corpus Christi parishioners. A list of local advertisers can be found on our website. We have included the link: https://www.corpuschristichurch.com/html/local-advertisers.html
